I have been using this slow cooker for nearly two months now and am really impressed. It is quite large but it is ideal for myself, my partner and 2 hungry teenage boys. Would easily feed up to 6 with large portions, no good if its just the two of you, unless you froze the rest, cos it needs to be at least half full when cooking. Its great being able to throw everything in the pot then walking into to a nice home cooked meal when I come home in the evening. Have done various different casseroles, curries, soups, chilli and bolognese in it with great results. Apparently I have seen on various websites that you can cook a whole chicken in it but havent tried that yet. The variable heat controls are an essential too. The cooker does not have a timer but if I have wanted it to start cooking a couple of hours after I have left in a morning I have used a plug in timer in the electric socket. Has been a great buy for me and has saved me lots of time and trouble in the kitchen. A good product that I have had no problems with so far

Very pleased, nice big size and easy to wash in that the middle pot comes out of the container.

This product has been invaluable in the cold winter weeks since purchase with hot casseroles, dumplings and curries always at the ready for a cold, hungry family! The capacity is fantastic and the cooking power perfect for all sorts of recipes.

I have had 3 slow cookers over the last few years, the first one being a very old tower slow cooker which took what seemed like years to cook food, and 2 of these morphy richards ones which is completely opposite and can cook food in a matter of a couple of hours.

I changed my first morphy richards one about 18 months ago because i thought the thermostat had gone due to the food cooking so quick - customer service at MRs was second to none i must say and they sent a replacement out the next day............to my amazement, the new one was exactly the same so the thermostat hadnt gone at all, its just how it is.

1. What i would say, is if you want food to be left all day, make sure the crock pot is full as a half full one will cook in a couple of hours.

2. Many recipe books say to seal the meat and heat the food up before putting into the slow cooker but this is definitely not necessary for this model.

3. Dont start the slow cooker off on hi to get it going as the lo setting is more than adequate when leaving food on all day.

This aside, i would still buy another one as you get used to the way it cooks and if you want a slow cooked meal a little quicker, then its perfect.

I bought this slow cooker as it was recommended in Which! magazine as the best. So far I am very pleased, and as a first time slow cooker user I found it really easy to use, and easy to clean too. I agree the food did seem to be bubbling rather furiously even on low, so I will reduce the cooking time a little, but I think the main reason for this is the enormous capacity, so if you dont fill the pot up it will cook quicker. This cooker is big, so make sure its not a shock when you open the box and measure your space before you buy. In an ideal world you would have a smaller cooker too for weekday meals, but if you can only afford one slow cooker I would go for this big one every time. I can already see it will be brilliant for cooking large joints like a whole shoulder of lamb (yum) or large quantities for dinner parties and for freezing. All in all I am really pleased. I would have given this product 5 stars if the recipe book had been more inspiring rather than the skinny black and white pamphlet that is included. Buy a separate slow cooker book (I bought the Hamlyn one which so far has been excellent).

A good product with style and capacity for the largest of families or party. You can cook everything from casseroles to joints, ( rice pudding is fab, add a spoonfull of clotted cream to serve!) The liner looks very stylish on the table and is very easy to clean...thats another +...so buy a pot, youll never look back, just press the button and GET COOKING!.

I bought this model because it was on offer, and had reasonable reviews here and elsewhere. I was replacing an old Tower Auto cook Crockpot that ia to small for us all (6 adult appetites) so this size is great. I was a bit annoyed though when it arrived and said on box 6.5lt but only 4.5lt? (think it was that but thrown box away now), working capacity - now Morphy Richards lets be fair, you should be clear about this before we buy , thats around 2lts different and as the size is probably the selling point versus the smaller one lets have clarity on this issue!
It does cook hotter than the Tower, but I dont object to this as use it on Low, infact I prefer a slightly higher heat as the Tower tended to leave a slightly greasy taste in casseroles. But I do miss the Auto setting which took the concern out of cooking as switched to low after inital faster cooking, so could leave it to keep cooking longer if desired. I might have bought the one with a timer if Id not been seduced by the offer on this one!
However overall very pleased with this both in performance, size and aesthetically so far. The removable pot is a must and the glass lid stops you wanting to open the pot to see whats happening.
I do wonder about the economy though, as it used 330w which is more than light bulb! It might be less on LOW...

I brought one of these from amazon, the lid appears to be loose, amazon have changed it once but the second one also has a loose wobbily lid which when tested is uneven when placed on a flat surface. None of my other glass saucepan lids are uneven so is this deliberate or a faulty batch?
My slow cookbooks suggest that there should be a water seal to control steam and smell, but with the uneven lid both escape, what is wrong and how many times should I ask Amazon to change this item?
The outside of the cooker is very hot but unlike previous reviewers I dont think this is a clumsy user but a serious design fault. As this is the only slow cooker I have ever brought I dont know if all slow cookers have hot exteriors, surely this is a waste of energy, why not insulate the exterior? Why is this a which? best buy? Its not good!

I deliberately bought the 6.5l because I want to cook then freeze casseroles etc. I used this for the first time yesterday and was very happy with the results, despite some negative reviews here. I left the cooker on med. for 10 hours unattended, and it was bubbling gently on my return, chicken and veg beautifully cooked. I dont think it needs the high setting, as the med. was perfectly adequate. It seemed bigger when I got it home than it did in the shop, and this may be a problem for those who are pushed for storage space, and its far too big to leave on the worktop all the time. I am looking forward to trying joints in it,its big enough for a small leg of lamb, as I have only previously used a slow cooker for stews.

This product is very good at what is says it does. It is a little on the quick side. I received the goods within 2 days of ordering. The down side was that the inside crock dish was smashed to pieces. I immediately contacted Amazon got all the necessary paper work off the web site. The parcel was picked up the next day and a new one followed later that day.
I was very impressed with the level of service i received.

Ive been using slow cookers for about 25 years. I got the 48715 last Christmas (2007) and its been serving this family of four at least once a week since. Like any other kitchen appliance, some common sense in its use will avoid any of the negatives Ive read here.

A slow cooker is not a set-it-and-forget-it device, and theyre not marketed as such. Admittedly the 48715 runs hotter than one might expect, but thats true of most modern slow cookers. In fact the one niggle I have with it is the number of times Ive inadvertently touched the hot metal base, but thats me being clumsy. Theres a warning printed on the front, Hot metal surfaces do not touch. And even at the age of fifty-something, I can still burn toast occasionally.

If you must leave it unattended, a timer socket (for around a tenner) can be handy, but consider how long the raw ingredients will be sitting at room temperature. Better to set it to come on within a hour of you leaving, and to turn off after a set number of hours. The residual heat will continue to cook the contents for some time, and half an hour on high will get it hot enough to eat.

Use the thing enough times and youll get to know how far you can trust it to be left on its own.

The ceramic bowl has integrated moulded handles to allow it to be carried to the table and sat on a heat-proof mat. I doubt if Id try to carry a full cooker by the handles on the base with the power cable trailing everywhere. I dont think thats the plan, Stan.

All in all a great investment -- and a great partner for that other energy-saver, the pressure cooker -- this slow cooker has paid for itself several times over in the last nine months. If it dies on me tomorrow, Ill be right back for another.

.....some of the negative reviews here but do understand the positive ones.

Ive only had mine two weeks now but so far its proved an excellent buy. So far Ive cooked Rabbit; Chicken and stewing steak in a bed of various vegetables and all successfully. I also think you have to experiment and guess how much liquid you need to cook - Chicken will need less but Rabbit more. Also, I turn the Cooker on to Medium whilst preparing the meal and with the liquid in the pot. By the time youve finished the preparation, the Crock pot is just beginning to warm. Put the cover on and if cooking for around 6-8hrs, turn to low and forget about it.

Ive also followed the book advice which tells you to put all ingrediants in first, followed by the Meat/Poultry/Rabbit/Game on top and it works. Rabbit for example is very lean and low in fat but is deliciously succulent from the slow Cooker.

Cant understand why Ive resisted buying one for years.

After reading the reviews, I felt I was taking my life in my hands buying this. I went for a brushed steel model, but otherwise the same. I asked Morphy Richards about the overheating element etc, and the lady had only personally had one that had a faulty element.

Ive not used a slow cooker before. Ive been very happy with this one. But its not slow - a whole chicken cooks in under 4 hours on medium etc, but despite the speed, everything is very tender.

Gave this four not five stars because you cant put the pot in the oven (which sometimes would be handy).

Everyone recommended getting a large model. And, yes, its brilliant to be able to do a whole joint in it. But to do a stew, you would need to cook maybe 8 portions, which is a lot of meat. And a word of warning if you have weaker hands for any reason. This casserole is MASSIVE. My sink is barely big enough to hold it and Im always a bit nervous as I wash it up.

Recommended.

I am struggling to get the best out of this cooker, I leave my food in all
day and it still is not properly cooked, even after I pre heat the cooker.
I am very disappointed with it.

After ranting on for weeks/months about wanting a slow cooker my husband
bought me this for christmas.
I absolutely LOVE this slow cooker!! It has become a great friend to me
haha. There is only two and a half of us (baby due in a week) but there
is enough room in this slow cooker to cook a big meal for the whole
extended family.
The slow cooker itself looks great and is easy to clean. The inner bowl is
dishwasher safe which is a great bonus. The heat and steam are kept in
well (some cheap slow cookers let the steam out)
This slow cooker is easy to use, easy to clean and makes my life so much
easier. When baby is born i will continue to throw ingredients in and let
my trusted slow cooker do the rest while i get on with the important
stuff.
