Fractals: Beautiful and complex patterns resulting from simple mathematical formulae that when enlarged reveal themselves to be composed of shapes similar to the whole. The two most famous exples of fractals are probably the Mandelbrot and Julian Sets. You may or may not remember the Fractal craze of the late eighties and early nineties. Their inherently `trippy` nature made them popular with the drug culture of the Acid House and Indy scenes which ruled the charts at the time. Practically every music video back then featured some spaced-out `Madchester` type dancing epileptically infront of a swirling fractal background.
