skate. is more realistic then the Tony hawk games I was still able to do 540 hardflips to fs lipslide 180 varial heelflip out to 5-0 double kickflip out.Controls are the best part of this game there is no button mashing for tricks. The player controls his skater through the city of San Vanelona. Multiplayer is pretty good you can share your skating videos. Its not a a perfect game but this is no doubt the best Skateboarding game out there go buy it!

So you have come here looking for a good game that will have life. Well you have found it. The online is absouloutly fantastic and it is really fun giving you the choice to freeskate. Join in competions or just have a laugh with your mates. The story though is quite dissapointing though its slow and dosent give you much exictment and it also is quite hard to do. So if you want this game be warned the story isnt great. You should really wait untill skate 2 is out because that will probrably be a fantastic game. So now onto the physics the way you play the game is fun with flick it controls. But one of the flaws is that you cant get off your board which the next skate will have in it. Now the way you custimise your player is fantastic it gives you choice from loads of clothes and boards and shoes. But to get more clothes, boards, shoes etc you need to get sponsored which brings me onto the next topic sponsership. The game is full of licesenced products from boards and shoes to hats. It even lets you participate in the X GAMES which i think is a fantastic bit event though i havnt got to that bit yet. If you havnt got there yet you can always go online and play with people all over the world in lots of big parks. All in all this is a fantastic game that will make you have lots of fun untill the next skate comes out. Buy this game you wont regret it....
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating:  Date Reviewed: 20Jan2009 | | | If your stuck on choosing between Skate or TH proving grounds like I was at Christmas last year you should buy Skate as overall it is the better game, as a skater myself I can say that skate is easily 10 times as realistic as TH and you can have more fun the just button mashing to see how many tricks you can do. Also skate is about the closest gaming will ever get to the feel of actually skating where as TH is just press some buttons do some ridiculous combo, skate involves actual skill to do lots of the tricks and you stack if you dont land them well but in TH you will almost always just keep going so I think that if your stuck on which to buy, then skate is the game for you!

I think to really appreciate this game you have to be a skateboarder, because this game was literraly custom designed by skaters, for skaters. Just like real life it requires practise and technique, it is still playable by anyone, but to really appreciate it and enjoy it you have to understand how skateboarding works. Unlike tony hawk games where you can just magically ride up a kerb at full speed or pull off a 900 triple heelflip barrel roll to switch manual from an ollie off a 6ft ledge, you must master the flickit controlls. there are no button combinations to do tricks, to have to imagine your right stick as the movement of a skateboard, moving it in different ways at different times allows for thousands of trick combinations and to manual or grind you must simply position yourself right and land correctly, unlike tapping up down for a manual or ollieing 4 feet away from a rail, tapping the grind button and suddenly *DING* you teleported on to the rail! I respect Tony Hawks games for making the breakthroughs for the past 10 or so years, but its just started to get too unrealistic. SKATE brings back the realism. So if you are a skateboarder BUY THIS GAME, however if you just like to pretend or think that Tony Hawks is easier to play because you are too simple to figure out the flickit tricks, then A) you are not a skateboarder B) you have no idea how skateboarding works and C) enjoy pulling off gaps and combos that are completely ridiculous, such as being able to ollie over a car without a ramp or clear 40ft with just 20ft of run up.....and so on.......

With dozens of tricks and excellent gameplay, it makes it one of the greatest games i have ever played on. Also you can customise your charecter hundreds of different ways. Overall 10/10!!!

I hope that EA decide to make a whole series because this game easily beats the TH series, i do like the Tony Hawks games but this is a New-Generation of a skateboarding game. The graphics are amazing, the music is good and the gameplay is unbeatable! You may think the camera angle is dodgy, but once you start playing it you realise that it really suits this game. Unlike Tony Hawks to ollie is a simple tap of a button but on Skate you hold the right analog stick down (To crouch and get ready) and quickly flick it back up (To push the back the board down jump and slide your front foot forward). Its also very similar controls to do trick like hold the analog down then flick it left to do a Kickflip or Heelflip depending on if your Goofy or Regular stance.

*Gameplay 10/10
*Overall 9.9/10
